Snapshot

One the most destructive batsman to come out of the West Indies in recent years, Chris Gayle has also become a reliable off-spin bowler.

He has appeared nearly 200 times for the West Indies in One Day Internationals and scored 19 centuries. As a Test batter he averages just under 40 runs.

He was the first player ever to hit six fours in an over when he did so against English bowler Matthew Hoggard at The Oval in 2004. That day he scored a century in just 79 balls, the same amount he needed in Cape Town when he scored a century against South Africa.

In Antigua in 2005 he proved he could not only hit a quick century but could play a strong innings when he scored 317.

In 2006, when West Indies lost the final of the Champions Trophy to Australia, Gayle was named the Player of the Series after taking eight wickets and scoring 474 runs, including three centuries, which was 150 more than any other player.

Gayle was the first player to score a century in a Twenty20 International, scoring 117, which meant he was also the first player to have centuries in three formats of International Cricket.

In 2008 and 2009 Gayle was selected by IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders.

Gayle was named in the All-Star Team at the completion of the 2009 Twenty20 World Cup.
