Snapshot
A Gold Coast product, Dayne Beams is an in-and-under midfielder with outstanding ball-winning ability and excellent goal-sense. The 2008 Queensland U18 captain and a member of Southport's AFLQ premiership side in the same year, he knocked back a guaranteed top-level three-year contract with the proposed Gold Coast AFL franchise in '08 to take on the uncertainty of the draft and was rewarded when snapped up by Collingwood in the second round at No.29 overall. After enormous pre-season hype, driven as much by his heavily tattooed right arm, he made an eye-catching NAB Cup debut for the Pies on the same night Ben Cousins returned to football after an 18-month absense. Followed up with another solid effort as the 'Pies qualified for the NAB Cup Grand Final, and in his first season played in the NAB Cup grand final loss to Geelong.

Season 2009
Was an emergency for Round 1 of the premiership season and received a late call-up to debut in Round 2 against Melbourne at the MCG. Missed Round 7 with a minor groin injury, was recalled for Round 8 and tasted first-time omission from the senior squad in Round 9. Was recalled for Round 13 and in Round 17 won a nomination for the NAB AFL Rising Star Award. In August 2009 signed a contract extension that will tie him to the Pies until the end of 2012 and is destined for a long and fruitful AFL career. Finished 4th overall in the NAB AFL Rising Star Award.
